The 1st Hellenic Scientific Conference on Aquaculture (ELESY) took place in Athens, Greece, from May 16 to 18, 2025, bringing together more than 250 participants from academia, industry, and government. Organised in collaboration with the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization and supported by leading sectoral companies and the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the event marked a significant milestone in strengthening the connection between research and aquaculture production in Greece.
This inaugural edition of the conference was designed as a dedicated scientific forum, focused on showcasing recent advancements in aquaculture research and strengthening the links between scientific knowledge and practical applications. Attendees included researchers, students, aquaculture producers, company representatives, and public sector stakeholders, all of whom contributed to an active and collaborative exchange of ideas.
A key objective of the event was to present research outcomes from national and European-funded programmes, alongside findings from private-sector initiatives and production units. Discussions covered a wide range of topics related to aquaculture production, sustainability, and innovation, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific findings into practice and addressing real-world challenges.
The conference also set a spotlight on supporting early-career scientists and students, offering them a platform to present their work, meet potential employers, and deepen their understanding of the aquaculture job market. This exchange not only supported professional development but also helped industry leaders identify emerging talent and skills.
We are pleased to share that the SEA2SEE project was represented by our partner NAYS, who did a poster presentation during the event. Titled ‘Blockchain technology in the context of traceability of seafood products: a use case in sea bream aquaculture’, the poster showcased progress obtained within the framework of SEA2SEE, being a collaborative effort of NAYS, Tilkal, and Smartwater Planet.
