The Ocean Literacy World Conference, co-hosted by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the Government of Italy, the Municipality of Venice, and the Prada Group, will take place in Venice, Italy, on June 7-8, 2024.

The Conference marks one of the initial undertakings of the Ocean Decade Coordination Office (DCO) for Connecting People and Ocean. Recently established at the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, its aim is to foster a fairer, more balanced, and harmonious connection between humanity and the ocean. The event unites the global ocean literacy and education community to foster a better connection between humans and the ocean.

In support of the shared commitment to fairness and justice, the Venice Declaration will be drafted and endorsed during the conference, and all participants are welcome to provide their inputs! This Declaration on Ocean Literacy will offer specific recommendations for incorporating Ocean Literacy into policymaking endeavors.
