Digital Tools and Seafood Value Chains: Between Innovation and Reality Check

About the Event
Join us for a dynamic side event at the 2025 UN Ocean Conference that explores how digital innovation is transforming seafood value chains — from the ocean to your plate.
This side event explores the potential and limits of digital tools to foster a more sustainable use of marine resources. Based on real-life pilots across seafood value chains, the session goes beyond technical solutions to discuss the socio-economic, organizational, and cultural barriers to adoption. The dialogue will address essential issues such as data transparency, power asymmetries between actors and the fragmentation of governance and digital standards.
Key questions include: What kind of transparency do we need, and for whom? Are traceability challenges inherent to the seafood sector, or shaped by value chain structures? Can digital tools overcome real-world constraints? The open discussion will draw insights from the SEAS2SEE, EveryFish and TITAN projects.
Hosted by the SEA2SEE Project in collaboration with EveryFish, TITAN, and FishEUTrust, this session will unpack the real-world challenges and opportunities of digital tools like blockchain in supporting transparent, sustainable, and traceable fisheries.
